German farmers blocked the road leading up to the Brandenburg gate in Berlin in the latest wave of anger against efforts to protect Europe's nature from farming pollution.

Government plans have included increasing taxes for farming solutions and cutting subsidies for agricultural products. Farmers in western Europe have fought with increasing ferocity against greener policies, with protests in the Netherlands and and Belgium. After previous protests in Berlin in December the government watered down plans to cut subsidies for diesel in farmyard vehicles, but lobby groups are calling for them to scrap the plan entirely.

Farmers in Germany have come out in their tractors to protest.
They have lined up their farm vehicles in major cities like the capital Berlin. The German farmers are protesting against the government's decision to remove an agricultural diesel subsidy.
The German government is facing an $18 billion budget deficit after an adverse court ruling.
But the farmers say they cannot sustain themselves if the subsidies are removed.

Attackers threw two Molotov cocktails at a synagogue and a Jewish community center in Berlin overnight, police said on Wednesday. Following the attack, Chancellor Olaf Scholz vowed that the government would fight antisemitism in Germany. The attack comes as a conflict rages between Israel and the Islamist militant group Hamas, which Germany, the EU and several other countries classify as a terrorist organization.

The protests, which are now in their fourth week, followed a report last month that two senior AfD members had attended a meeting to discuss plans for the mass deportation of citizens of foreign origin. AfD has denied that the proposal represented party policy.
